A Son’s Desperate Plea on His Mother’s Behalf

Last week, we received a call from a deep woods village a couple hours by car from San Pedro Carchá, Alta Verapaz. A son was calling for his Q'eqchi speaking mother and his voice was so desperate that it touched my heart and we began to try and help. image Elvira has given birth to ten children and the lack of medical care in her region had led to some urgent feminine problems. We made some calls to the local hospital officials and...

Surgical Relief for Rosmin

image On Sunday afternoon, we received a call from a desperate eighteen year old mother in the Chisec area of Alta Verapaz. Apparently, three year old Rosmin had been battling with a large liver stone for some time. Since they live so far away from a higher level of medical care, they had run all the tests and were given empty promises that were never fulfilled. At 2:00am Monday morning Rosmin and her grandparents boarded their first bus headed to Guatemala City. We...

Purchasing Bibles in Guatemala

imageIt never gets old spreading the Word of God and what a better way than giving a new Bible to someone who can't afford it! Yesterday we had the privilege of purchasing 206 paperback Bibles that will be given to Guatemalans as God leads. For purchasing so many at once, the Guatemalan Bible Society gave us a pack of tract sized illustrated Bible stories for children. Pray for the Bible recipients to have a real hunger for God's Word and not...

A Message From a Missionary – A Mother’s Love!!

I couldn't wait to write this little note, because God used a mother's love yesterday to teach me a lesson that I will not soon forget. I was in a dental clinic yesterday, to encourage and share God's love with families of children born with cleft lip and cleft palate. The doctor asked me to speak privately with a mother and her fifteen year old son. During the conversation it came out that the mother has been suffering with breast cancer, has had both breasts removed and is in the...

Serving More Cleft Families

Yesterday, I had the privilege to attend a followup session for cleft lip and cleft palate patients with our friends from Clinica Dental Familiar. Their office is here in Guatemala City but families travel from all over Guatemala to come for the free consult to adjust their child's obturator and receive instruction from the staff. I knew that the family of the newborn baby had their appointment later in the morning, but I felt led to be there during the entire session. After being there for...

Spring 2014 Update From Guatemala + New Website, Email Address..

hammockI just want to start off by saying God is good all the time and all the time God is good. That's a phrase that I learned in the late 90's at an old storefront church in Amelia, Virginia where alcohol & drug addictions were miraculously taken from me while I was praying at the alter. That was more than sixteen years ago and twelve of those years I've spent serving the Lord full-time in Guatemala and three other Central American...

A Message From a Missionary – “Who Wears The Pants”

200489649-001The Lord is leading me to share short, concise messages here from time to time. They may be testimonies, Biblical teachings or just encouraging stories. Here on the blog, we'll call them A Message From a Missionary. Today's message is titled, "Who Wears The Pants" and our scripture reference is found in Colossians 3:23-24: And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance;...

Encouraging a Newborn Cleft Baby’s Family

blog3-22-14This week I received a call from a father of a 12 day old baby boy, who was born with both cleft lip and cleft palate. Immediately, I contacted my friend Oseas from Dental Familiar, a dental clinic in Guatemala City that specializes in pediatric dentistry and has tons of experience with pre and post surgical care for cleft children. The family was given an appointment the very next morning and when I met them it was...
